First print this page so that you can have these directions in front of
you as you go through the other steps.
-
to go to the Harris County Appraisal District's Online Real Property
Records.
-
Click on Search by Property Address.
-
Using the Specific Address Search, enter "0" for the street number,
and click the Specific Search Button. (This will bring up all vacant
lots on that street.)
-
You may have have to experiment with the street name by eliminating "drive",
"lane," "road," etc. Some streets such as Timber Wood may be listed as
Timberwood or vis-versa. Be patient, and be persistent.
-
Click on the View button
-
This screen lists all vacant lots on that street. Sometimes a street
name search will display lots from two entirely different parts of the
county. Checking the zip code will often help you figure out which is the
one in which you are interested. Click on the Account Number
to view all the available information on any particular lot.
-
I strongly recommend that you use "copy" and "paste" to make yourself a
table in a word processing program. Copy the Owner's name & address,
property address, and legal description for each lot that looks
promising.
-
If you know the school district in which the property is located, you
can get a plat of the subdivision showing lot dimensions, etc. Just
Then click on the appropriate school district.
-
This next screen is more difficult because you have to guess the location
without the benefit of much detail. You will just have to search your
way through it. Remember! Be patient, and be persistent. You can move to
adjacent grids by clicking on the arrows located around the border.
-
Once you have located the correct facet (grid), you will notice that it
is divided into twelve more grids. Click on the one that contains your
street. (You will need to have the software program "Adobe Acrobat
Reader". You can
download it here if you don't have it.)
-
From this screen you can print a copy of the plat. If you go back to
the previous screen, you can then select adjacent grids and print them
until you have a complete plat of the entire subdivision. From this
screen you can also zoom in to read the lot dimensions.
-
If you have made yourself a table of prospective lots, you can now locate
each of them on the plat you have just printed.
-
If you are having trouble getting this to work for you, fill out
this form and e-mail it to me. I will be glad
to help you with whatever you need.
